European Coopers Ltd. was founded in 1997 by a Hungarian Master Cooper Mr. Kristóf Flódung, together with several famous Italian families of the wine and barrel industry: the Antinori, the Gamba and the Mazzei families. Flódung’s vast experience began in Hungary in a barrel factory and later in Germany at the Rieger Cooperage.
European Coopers’ founding objective was to craft barrels of the highest quality for some of the finest Italian wines.
Our quality barrels can only be made of the finest Hungarian oak. Wood is carefully selected by Mr. Kristóf Flódung himself. The oak is air-dried for at least three years and exposed to both winter and summer weather. Our barrels are bent and toasted over oak fires to customers’ specifications using traditional methods.
